Sejvanvolin
In 1964 folklorist Guze Cassar Pullicino conducted a radio interview with 87 year-old Anglu Zammit, known as Il-Ha-Haj, from Siggiewi, who played the flejguta during carnival. The interview also yields seven flejguta melodies with guitar accompaniment by Karmenu Cardona from Hamrun.
Il-Kuntradanza (Country dance),
also known as Il-Maltija, is today considered to be the Maltese National Dance. The tune has an apparent folk character, similar to traditional Italian dance music. When the Kuntradanza is presented as a country dance the dancers wear peasant costumes commonly known as ta’ Zepp u Grezz. However, the same music is used to accompany a ceremonial court dance in full eighteenth century attire.
